Vandalur is a suburb in the southwestern part of Chennai. It islocatedinKancheepuram district. The suburbs of Perungalathur, Mudichur, Tambaram, Urupakkam and Padappai are located nearby. Vandalur is a residential area at the junction of the Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road and connects the Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST) with Old Mamallapuram Road (OMR).

Vandalur is also home to famous Vandalur Lake. Vandalur also houses the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in the Vandalur Reserve Forest with an area of over 1,000 acres. The Park, one of the largest zoological parks in South Asia, is home to many rare species of flora and fauna. Also called the Vandalur Zoo, it was the first public zoo in India.Vandalur Hill is part of the Arignar Anna Zoological Park and entry is restricted.
